TNTET – Overview

The Tamil Nadu Teacher Eligibility Test (TNTET) is conducted by the Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB), Government of Tamil Nadu. Passing TET is compulsory to be appointed as a teacher for Classes I to VIII in Tamil Nadu schools.

Duration: 3 hours for each paper; there is no negative marking
Pass mark: 60% (90 out of 150) for general candidates; 55% (82 out of 150) for BC, MBC/DNC, SC, ST and differently-abled candidates, as per the current norms
Certificate validity: the TET certificate is now valid for life
TET is an eligibility test. Appointment is made through a separate TRB recruitment process

Notifications and results are published on trb.tn.gov.in.

After TET – TRB Teacher Recruitment

Clearing TET makes you eligible. Government teaching posts are filled through recruitment examinations and notifications of the Teachers Recruitment Board.

TNTET – Eligibility

Paper I (Classes I–V)

Higher Secondary (+2) pass with a two-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed. / D.T.Ed.), or other qualifications recognised under NCTE norms.

Paper II (Classes VI–VIII)

A bachelor's degree with B.Ed., or other qualifications recognised under NCTE norms (such as the four-year integrated B.A./B.Sc. Ed.).

Minimum marks in the qualifying examination and the relaxation for reserved categories are given in each notification.
Candidates in the final year of D.El.Ed. or B.Ed. may apply, subject to the notification.
A candidate can write both papers to be eligible for both levels.
