Zero human entry
GS-IIGS-III
Meaning
Planning, building and running sanitation systems so that no person ever has to enter a sewer, septic tank or sump.
Laws against hazardous cleaning mostly act after a death, through punishment and compensation. Zero human entry moves the focus to design: sewers, septic tanks, pumping sumps and treatment plants are built for machine access; cleaning and repair are done by jetting, suction and remote tools; and entry, if it is ever unavoidable, is a rare act under a written permit, with gas testing, ventilation, a harness and a standby rescuer. Because the dangerous job itself disappears, the idea also breaks the old link between caste and sanitation work. India's NAMASTE scheme states the related goal of zero fatalities in sanitation work.
Use it in your answer: Use it in answers on manual scavenging, sanitation workers, urban infrastructure or SBM-U: "Compensation counts the dead; zero human entry keeps workers out of the sewer in the first place."
